That is the size of the check that arrived in our mailbox today. Well, that’s the size of each of the four checks that landed in our mailbox today. Over six thousand, six hundred in all. Did I mention that I love living in Alaska?

The Alaska Permanent Fund dividend checks arrived today. The state of Alaska has thirty-nine Billion dollars in oil money saved. It gathers interest through a variety of investments, and every year the state pays each and every resident, just for being an Alaskan.

Even kids get it. Tobias turned one this summer, and he got his first dividend today. Jacob got his second. They both have savings accounts, and our goal is to save every dividend for them until they are ready for college. Stephanie’s and my dividend were (unfortunately) spent some time ago. Ah, well. We had fun (I think?!).
