Breakfast Anyone?

I’m so tired. I was up at 5 this AM flipping flapjacks, brewing java and listening to Morning Edition. And man, can I put together a mean breakfast: coffee, eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, pancakes, toast, breakfast burritos. At only $5 a plate, it’s a deal.

The major rush of people here for the Quest has passed. The race leader is a full twelve hours ahead of the record time and is expected to finish in Fairbanks sometime this afternoon. He has left the media and everyone else scrambling to get to the next checkpoints to keep up with him. Here at the school, we’ve been cooking three meals a day, but the business has tapered off severely since yesterday afternoon. I think we may be wrapping this thing up soon, or at least cutting back the operation. Having started on Saturday, I can’t believe today is only Tuesday. I feel like I’ve missed most of the action, too, since I’ve been at the school all day every day. I haven’t taken more than a couple quick grab shots. I’ll write more later, after I’ve slept.

So what happened to classes during this YQ2007? The kids all have time off and missed lessons to be made up later?

Oh, no. Some of the students are working shifts in the kitchen while most students are working in the classroom independedntly, or with an aide. Everyone is keeping up with their assignments.
