Polar Bear
I have been asked, from time to time, if we ever see polar bears while living in Alaska. I explain that no, polar bears live on the northern coastal sea ice, truly far from population centers (as if we aren't). I stand corrected. Here is an email from a friend in Fort Yukon, sent this morning.
Anyway, on to the more exciting news. Zeb and Snook shot a polar bear just a few miles outside of town yesterday. Can you believe it? We went over and took a picture, along with the rest of the village. I'll attach it so you can see it. It was just a "wee young thing" -- not the ferocious marauding beast that was reported. It still caused quite a stir.
The internet is ablaze with stories, posts and comments on the polar bear in Fort Yukon. Here is a story with comments from the Fairbanks News Miner.
