Let's Close This Deal
We're back in Fairbanks for two days, going home on Saturday. Stephanie had a doctor appointment on Thursday. Everything is going well there. The baby is scheduled for June 24th, so if all goes as planned, that'll be the birthday. Stephanie was wishing for another ultrasound, just to confirm the gender. We're pretty sure it's a girl, but you never know. And we still don't have a name. We've been so wrapped up in so many other directions... job, house, kids, money... we just haven't dwelt on this one quite like we did on the first one. Alaska gives parents up to a year after the birth to come up with a name, and it might just take that long.
The home inspection was scheduled for tonight (Friday) at 6PM. We've been in Fairbanks for two days now, and we've driven by the property about half a dozen times, but this was our first opportunity to really see the house again. We brought Jamiee and the boys as well, and that was their first time to see it. The owner was there along with a buddy of his. Our real estate agent was there, as well as the inspector and us. It looked like a house party when we pulled in the driveway.
The home inspector dove right in to walking the property, and I followed him around while Stephanie and our agent went upstairs and looked at the living space. The inspection didn't reveal any major, deal-breaking issues. It's an old house. There will invariably be issues, but nothing too bad. I mean, I can replace an outlet cover. The bedrooms are small, and they are tightly grouped, but we can manage. And so we are pressing on. We'd like to be in the house before the baby arrives, but it'll be a squeaker.
Fairbanks. In the summertime. Is gorgeous. There may be places with better weather in the summertime, but I've never been to them. Last night, Stephanie and I went for a drive and ended up washing the car after 10PM. Tonight, we had dinner at Pike's landing, a Fairbanks favorite. What interior Alaskan winters take from your psyche, interior Alaskan summers return in full measure.
