I wish Stephanie blogged more about her experiences, because her take on our crazy life is often more interesting, insightful, and uniquely her own. I’ve told her she could be a guest poster on this site. Tonight, when she came home from the grocery store, she told me this story about our illustrious Governor (and potential Vice Presidential nominee) Sarah Palin. I told her she had to write it down. So without further ado, here's a story from Stephanie.

Tonight, after the boys went to bed and while Brian was working in the garage, I bundled Sarah Avery into the Snugli and we went to Fred Meyer to shop for groceries.

As I was walked in the store, I ran into two ladies I know from Circle. I was chatting with them for a few minutes in the entryway, when Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska, walked in. I immediately recognized her and quickly remembered that she is in Fairbanks for “Golden Days” this weekend, the anniversary of Alaska’s statehood.

I said “Hey Governor Palin!” At that point, the two ladies I was talking to quickly turned and walked off to the side. Governor Palin stopped and we had a very brief conversation about our babies since I was carrying Sarah.

Gov. Palin: Hi! Oh, you have a little one. How old is your baby?
Me: She’ll be four weeks on Tuesday.
Gov. Palin: What’s her name?
Me: It’s Sarah. Oh, like you! How old is your baby now?
Gov. Palin: He’s about three months.
Me: They’re fun, aren’t they? It’s good seeing you! Enjoy Fairbanks.
Gov. Palin: Thanks!

As soon as she walked off, the two ladies from Circle came right back over and said, “Wow, you know Governor Palin?”

“No,” I said, “Just being friendly!” They laughed at the fact that I would strike up a conversation with someone that I did not know, especially the Governor. What can I say… I’m a friendly gal!
