We’ve been dealing with smoke on and off for a few weeks. There are a number of fires burning in the interior, and it’s mostly a nuisance, but not truly bad. This morning, however, ash was coming down pretty steadily, and this evening a whole new front of smoke rolled in. We’ve closed up all the doors and windows, so we’re not having to breath too much of this.

This past Friday, I went around and took a few pictures of the smoke haze. Looking up at the university on the hill provided the most dramatic view. So here are two sets of pictures. The first picture in each set was taken to illustrate how much smoke was in the air: these were not taken on clear days. The second picture in each set was taken tonight at roughly the same spot, looking roughly the same direction. The increase in smoke is clear. Hopefully some wind will blow this smoke out soon, or some rain will come to knock it down.

And then here's a bonus from the drive home. This is Giest at Loftus.

Wow, that's a lot of smoke. I saw in FB someone's comment that somewhere in Circle there are/were fires going on?
